Trailblazers in financial services: Inspiring our next generation

6 February 2024, 1730

SOLD OUT

Introduction

6 February 2024 | 17.30 | Northern Trust, 11th Floor, 50 Bank St, London E14 5NT.

WiAS is excited to host an in-person event courtesy of Northern Trust, celebrating female trailblazers in financial services. This is an opportunity to hear from leading female voices in an industry which according to research by Deloitte, has over the past decade seen a higher increase in women added to C-suite roles than men. It is also estimated that 55% of the world’s wealth will be in female hands by 2030*. Is there a quiet revolution happening?

Our three speakers will tell their own lived experience stories, the ups and downs of being female in financial services and how they discovered opportunities to exploit their talents. We would also like to extend this invitation to any young women and girls that members have in their lives to attend and hear from these inspiring women to discover the opportunities available in the industry. To help tip the gender balance further, the next generation need to see role models trailblazing the way and inspiring our future pipeline of talent to choose a career in STEM.

All members are welcome, whatever your gender, any teenagers must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Chimmy Ngoma (host)
Sales Enablement Associate at Calastone

Chimmy is a Sales Enablement Associate in the Commercial Team at Calastone. She has worked with key players across the financial industry such as Goldman Sach’s and JP Morgan, supporting them in their digital transformation and automation of the funds trading process.

Chimmy started her career in the Operations Team, moving across the business and ultimately, into the Commercial Team at Calastone. Chimmy also acts as one of the CSR leads at Calastone, focusing on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Mental Wellbeing, where she has worked to help establish the CSR program from its grassroots. For her work, Chimmy has been recognised as a Future Leader Role Model on the HERoes Women Role Model List 2022 by INvolve and Yahoo Finance as well as being included on the Women in FinTech Powerlist 2022. Chimmy was heralded as a Calastone Value Ambassador and is honoured to serve as an advisory board member for Women in Asset Servicing.

Chanelle Pattinson
Product Manager at Wealth Wizards

Joined our industry as an adviser, following in her father’s footsteps.  But quickly realised how few women there were in our industry and how she needed to find the inspirational women she was seeking.

She created Her Future Bright podcast where she interviews women from across our industry.  She is also a co-creator of Money Means.  She is often described as leading the new generation of ambitious and future-focused financial planners wanting to help millennials and Gen Z manage their money.  As women will own 55% of the wealth in 2030, Chanelle is perfectly placed for the future of financial advice.

The story: a woman in a man’s world but making it her own and using social media as the method of change.  Social media is now becoming a very powerful source of advice with FinFluencers (often without the right qualifications) gaining ground. Chanelle is qualified and able to influence in a positive way.

Georgia Stewart
CEO at Tumelo

Co-founder of Tumelo, an upcoming FinTech started from the UK. Whilst studying a Natural Sciences degree at Cambridge university, she campaigned to transform how the £6bn Cambridge endowment pot was invested, calling for transparency on issues such as gender and climate change.

She co-founded Tumelo in 2018 with a mission to help each investor have a positive impact by enabling them to vote on their underlying fund holdings giving investors a larger voice.  The white-label software plugs into existing investment platforms. Tumelo is gaining great clients, including Fidelity and LGIM.

The story: FinTechs are still dominated by male employees, and we know that venture capital funding tends towards male dominated firms.  This is a good story of how passion and drive can build a business in our industry using technology not available a decade ago.

Celeste Leverton
Associate Director, Responsible Investing Manager at Coutts

Although working in a “traditional” bank within our industry, Celeste is breaking new ground. She worked hard to enable Coutts to be a registered company with BCORP and then has gone onto supporting multiple clients and suppliers to be certified in their own right.

Celeste now works as a Responsible Investing Manager, a department that did not exist only 2 years ago, supporting Coutts to understand the nature of the investments that are being made on their client’s behalf.  She is also on the Junior Board of the BodyShop.

The story: Although working in a long-standing firm with establishment credentials, including banker to royalty, Celeste is part of the team who are driving change across our industry from within.
